An American Story

By Angel Trazo. Posted August 2, 2019.

This illustrated story was created by Angel Trazo, an artist and aspiring scholar from the SF Bay Area. She is currently in the Master’s program at UCLA in Asian American Studies.  The story comes from a friend of mine who wishes to be anonymous. It recounts the all too familiar racist harassment that people of color encounter these days.  The best way to fight back to expose the hatred and xenophobia that Trump promotes.  It will take a lot of work, but we must raise up voices of compassion and dampen the voices of hate.  Here’s Angel’s interpretation of my friend’s encounter with the TSA at the Nashville airport.

Artist’s Bio: Angel Trazo is an illustrator and Master’s student in Asian American Studies at UCLA. Her research focuses on the representation of Asian Americans in the visual arts (graphic novels, comic books, and social media) and the relationship between youth culture and the boba/bubble tea phenomenon in California. She is also the author of We Are Inspiring: The stories of 32 Asian American women, her debut children’s book.
